Are these even a viable option for a project like this? No doubt, I'd comment the heck out of the code, so that I could follow along later with what I wrote. But then again, if it's like iosys says in the above post, then I may not hit the end of my learning curve with it before I can get something working. EXCEL, hmmm I'm not even sure if this application is up to the task or not. They sound like the beginnings of a plan. When I learned a little bit of it, Object Oriented Programming was relatively new on the scene, and Java was supposed to be the next "big" thing. Does anyone know of any reason s why Qbasic might not be such a good idea to use for a task like this? I hope your right about all it basically needing is some knowledge of string manipulation, etc. I was just getting into blackjack at the time, so I made an 8 deck shoe and experimented a bit with coding an authentic shuffle. At the most, very very challenging, but not impossible by any means. There's a blackjack simulator out PowerSim , that's written in Xbasic. If there is, then I might be able to write something that'll translate the spreadsheet format to a traditional text format by reading it cell by cell, row by row, and, by knowing the structure of the HH, I can have the program output an alternate HH depending upon what it reads. This is going to be a rather long post, since I can't really sum up my question in one or two paragraphs. Or, I was thinking sometime after the original post, but prior to posting this one, that a BATCH file s might be the quickest route for me to go if this method will even be able to get the job done. At the very least, it's a way to post a few problem hands and maybe improve one's game a bit over time. I've played around with it off and on many times. However, to get advice that's more relevant to my specific game-type, and the particular population pool that I am up against, I alter that BB code to more accurately reflect both the poker client that I use and the buyin for the tourney.
